The Season of Lent always begins forty days before Easter, not including Sundays. So, with Easter coming on April 1st this year, Lent will begin on Wednesday, February 14th (yes, St. Valentine's Day). This day is known as Ash Wednesday, named for the practice of placing a small amount of ashes on the forehead of worshipers at services that day. HOWEVER, WE WILL HAVE OUR ASHES SERVICE ON THE NIGHT BEFORE, also known as Shrove Tuesday and Mardi Gras, at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This service will be preceded by a Pancake Supper by donation in the fellowship Hall starting at 6:00 p.m., featuring "POTLUCK TOPPINGS." This means that each household is asked to bring in a favorite pancake topping to share. Everything else will be provided, thanks to the United Methodist Men's group, so plan to come to both events (although each may be attended separately, of course)!

Hart United Methodist youth is hosting a 30-hour famine at our church on February 23-25th. If you have a 6-12th grader who would like to participate, please contact the Church Office at (231)873-3516. Everyone is welcome to attend this event! This is a great opportunity for our youth to experience, in a very small way, what other kids their ages experience in other countries, on a daily basis. Even if you don't want to participate fully, please feel free to stop by and check in on us or even help out!
