After reviewing last week's lesson on prayer as a means of grace and a work of piety, as John Wesley put it, Pastor Steve shares about Wesley's works of mercy, i.e., good works of charity, concluding that we obediently and actively work with God with sacrifice and humility, even as Mary gives us an example, along with the disciple-learners of Jesus.

the worship service for december 12, 2021

On this Third Sunday of Advent, Pastor Steve talks about two women of faith, Elizabeth and Mary, after reading part of their story from Luke 1:39-45.

ADVENT STUDY #2 "ALL THE GOOD--A WESLEYAN WAY OF CHRISTMAS"

In this second session, after reviewing last week's points, Pastor Steve reflects on prayer as a "means of grace" and a "work of piety" (the quotes here are phrases used by John Wesley), highlighting the fact that prayer is all about our relationship with God through the mystery of the Trinity, and is much more than simply a time to list out our wants and needs before God, who already knows.

the worship service for december 5, 2021

On this Second Sunday of Advent and before Holy Communion is observed, Pastor Steve tells a story of getting lost on a "wilderness" hunting trip with his dad, which necessitated a waiting and a watching for the sun to break through the thick clouds to give direction.

advent study #1 "all the good--a wesleyan way of christmas"

In this first session, Pastor Steve talks about how God's grace comes to us at Advent and always--whether we're ready or not--through what John Wesley called prevenient grace, justifying grace, and sanctifying grace. After choosing God's goodness for our lives, a choice which comes about through God's prevenient grace from the Holy Spirit and by God's justifying grace in Christ, we are then further invited into God's sanctifying grace, becoming involved in spiritual growth and maturity as we're perfected into Christ's image. This happens through God's grace and power as we participate in the various "means of grace" as Wesley called them, which he categorized as "works of piety" (personal faith development) and "works of mercy" (doing good works for others).

The worship service for november 28, 2021

the worship service for november 7, 2021

On this All Saints Sunday, names of those passed on are read and remembered, even as Pastor Steve continues the Generosity/ Stewardship Emphasis theme, "Earn & Save & Give All You Can," with a message based on Jesus's story of the three staffers' investments--or not--from Matthew 25:14-30.

FALL BIBLE STUDY #6: REVITALIZATION AND THE WESLEY METHODISTS

In this final session, Pastor Steve talks about how John Wesley persevered to the end, and how we need to persevere as well in our revitalization. Also featured are two Charles Wesley songs, with one read and sung from Pastor Steve's Great-Great Grandparents' Methodist hymnal, the 1868 edition.

the worship service for october 31, 2021

During this second in a series of four Generosity/Stewardship Emphasis Sundays, Pastor Steve talks about the clever manager in Jesus's story recorded in Luke 16:1-13, and how, surprisingly, we need to be like him when it comes to dealing with our money and material possessions. (Note: This is a re-post of the complete worship service which was interrupted previously.)

FALL BIBLE STUDY #4: REVITALIZATION AND THE WESLEY METHODISTS

the worship service for october 17, 2021

Looking at Mark, Chapter 10, verses 35 through 45, Pastor Steve talks about how, like James and John in this gospel story, our aims and ambitions in life may be too small, compared to serving God by serving others.

FALL BIBLE STUDY #3: REVITALIZATION AND THE WESLEY METHODISTS

In this session, Pastor Steve talks about John and Charles Wesley's failed missionary trip to Georgia, and recaps each of their experiences of grace later in May, 1738, back in England.

the worship service for October 10, 2021

Pastor Steve talks about Bartimae-US, the blind beggar who encountered Jesus and received vision (an "up-looking," as written in the original Greek) by faith, as the story is told in Mark 10:46-52. Youth ministry is also highlighted in the worship service.

FALL BIBLE STUDY #2: REVITALIZATION AND the WESLEY METHODISTS

In Session #2 of the Fall Bible Study, Pastor Steve continues to talk about how John and Charles Wesley's Methodist revival in the 1700's can serve as a model for our own spiritual revitalization today.

the worship service for october 3, 2021

On this World Communion Sunday, Pastor Steve talks on Mark 9:38-41, where Jesus says "whoever isn't against us is for us," indicating God's universal, all-encompassing grace and love, and how we need to be angels--messengers--of that grace as true evANGELists, especially through acts of kindness--even like simply sharing a cup of water (or a communion cup?) with someone.

fall bible study #1: revitalization and the wesley methodists

Pastor Steve talks about our need for spiritual revitalization, even as that need can be seen historically, especially in the 1700's in England, when a young college student named John Wesley came on the scene. He became the organizer of the Methodist revival. (NOTE: The actual planned study portion begins about 19 minutes into the live broadcast, which had begun earlier than needed.)

In reference to Jesus' words in Mark 10:13-16 and 9:36-37, Pastor Steve talks about our children, both here in the United States and around the world, taking a hard look at how precarious the situation is for our kids...and we adults are responsible for this situation, called to make it better.

the worship service for september 5, 2021

On this Labor Day Weekend Sunday, Pastor Steve talks about work in connection with what the Bible says in James about being "doers of the word" and "faith without works is dead." worship for august 15, 2021

Pastor Steve talks about anger, reflecting on what is written at the end of Chapter 4 in Ephesians, where it says that anger is OK, but...

worship for august 8, 2021

Pastor Steve focuses on an interesting story, recorded in both the Gospel of Matthew, 15:21-28, and in Mark's Gospel, 7:24-31, about Jesus' curt remarks to a Canaanite woman, as we see the human side of Jesus coming through, perhaps on one of those "dog days" of summer back then. But Jesus finally responded to her request miraculously and divinely as she kept on asking and kept on trusting.

worship for august 1, 2021

On this Holy Communion Sunday, Pastor Steve reflects on the loaves and fishes miracle enabled by what was given by a little boy, and then multiplied by Jesus to feed a multitude of thousands and thousands. See John 6:1-15, Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:33-44, and Luke 9:11-17...it's the only story recorded in all four gospels, so it's important!

SUMMER BIBLE STUDY - "FAITHFUL JOSEPH" #4

Pastor Steve concludes the study on Joseph by looking at what Joseph and Mary faithfully did after the birth of Jesus according to Jewish law and tradition. Also, the visit of the magi is discussed as an early example of how Jesus is the world's Savior and Sovereign: the One who "shall reign forever and ever," as Handel's "Messiah" musically proclaims.
